This guide is intented to be a short guide to optimizing images, which is extremely neccessary in creating images used in web. This article focuses mainly on PNG and JPEG formats which are far superior compared to others and widely supported. Optimization techniques used in this article are lossy, but when used right are hardly noticeable by the observer. It is recommended to always have a backup of the original images. Techniques used in this article are possible in modern versions of Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro and GIMP, among others.
